Battlefield 4 lacks “gimmicks” which don’t add value to the game
Battlefield 4 won’t contain motion control or other gimmicks, according to DICE’s Patrick Bach. “We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better,” he told Edge. “There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.” Bach said DICE is “extremely open to innovation,” but unless it adds value for the players, it’s just a “gimmick.” Bach used touch controls as an example, which until Apple perfected the tech, was considered contrived. “To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.” Battlefield 4 is expected sometime this fall.

Battlefield 4 gameplay: war never looked so lovely
Battlefield 4 is big. So big, in fact, that EA had to rent out the Metreon Theater in San Francisco to show it on a massive movie screen. What Steph Nunneley saw played out like a short film.

Battlefield 4 art reveals Shanghai cityscape, two new “faces”
Enough people have signed up for the Battlefield 4 website to confirm Shanghai as one of the locations in the game. This was pretty much outed not long after the official art for the game leaked earlier this month. We tried logging in to look ourselves, but Orign is giving us a password fit at the moment, so head over to PCgamesN for another look at it instead. The site also has “two new faces” revealed, and the Twitter account teased “Who is Hanna?” We’ll be having a look at the game on March 26 offsite at GDC, and the official public announcement will be made by EA the following day.

Battlefield 4 videos tease battles on land and sea
Two Battlefield 4 teasers have been released and both are posted below. EA will announce Battlefield 4, formally, on March 27 but the press is getting a look at it on March 26 during GDC next week. Sam and I will be there, and will report what we learned as fast as possible – providing there isn’t an embargo. The second trailer teases a land battle, courtesy of AGB. Likely one for air battles is next – and then maybe even space. We jest.

Battlefield 4 site launched by EA and it’s slightly interactive
EA has launched a Battlefield 4 site which looks like a wet window you can wipe off with your mouse, revealing a tank. The more people who sign up, the more information will be revealed it says, and the full game will be revealed on March 27. If you log in, you will also earn the dogtag “I Was There” for BF3. Granted, we’ll be seeing it off-site during GDC on March 26, so we’ll know more about the game then. Check out the site through the link. Thanks, OXM.

Battlefield 4 may be shown at GDC – report
EA is teasing a possible Battlefield 4 reveal at GDC, according to IGN. According to the site which received an invitation to the March 26 event, the color pallet looks rather Battlefield-eque, and it wouldn’t be the first time EA showed off one of its shooters at the conference. In 2012 it revealed Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and in 2011 it revealed Battlefield 3. We’ll know more once GDC hits at the end of the month.
