Resident Evil 6 film in early stages at Sony Pictures, Screen Gems
A Resident Evil 6 film is in the early stages at Sony Pictures and Screen Gems, but at present, neither Milla Jovovich nor Paul W.S. Anderson have been confirmed. The last film in the series, Resident Evil: Retribution, grossed $221 million worldwide. The film is slated to hit theaters September 12, 2014, so there’s still quite a ways to go before it hits cinemas. Thanks, MCV.

Sony Pictures registers 18 “Console War movie” domains
Sony Pictures has registered 18 domains this week for “Console War movie” in various forms. The domains, dug up by Fubsible, range from TheConsoleWarmovie.com to consolewar.net and everywhere in between, and all were registered on August 23. Sony Pictures is the television and film production/distribution unit of Sony, and none of the registrations were filed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Fusible notes this could be a marketing campaign for PS4, but at this point, the purpose of the domains are anyone’s guess as there are no webpages attributed to any as of yet.

Quick Quotes – Hollywood doubtful on Assassin’s Creed movie
“The whole Ubisoft/Sony deal is a waste of ink, paper and time. The level of control Sony gave up means, effectively, that Assassin’s Creed will never — and I mean never — get made.”
“They want to be able to pull the plug on the whole movie’s development if they decide to. It’s ridiculous.”
“As a director, even Steven Spielberg cannot get this kind of deal.”
Speaking to NY Mag, anonymous studio executives and insiders express doubts over Ubisoft’s insistence on creative control.

Sony Netflix cock-block “not specific to Xbox”
Sony’s played down the fact it’s stopped Columbia movies being streamed onto Xbox 360′s via Netflix by saying it’s an issue not specific to the platform. Happens all the time, apparently.
“This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform,” a Sony Pictures spokesperson told MTV.
“Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures.
“Given the ongoing nature of these discussions, we don’t think it is appropriate to comment further at this time.”
More through there.

Hayter wants Sony to let him write MGS4 film script
File this one under hilarious! David Hayter, the grizzly voice behind Solid Snake, has told fans on IMDB’s message boards that if they want him to write the script for the Metal Gear Solid film, then they should petition Sony Pictures.
“As for me writing the MGS movie, tell everyone on-line to write to Matt Tolmach at Sony Pictures studios in Culver City. If enough people do this, we may be back on board,” wrote Hayter writing under the pseudonym uberdave.
Well David Hayter only has to click his fingers and his loyal fans obey: the petition is here.
This time we really are saying absolutely nothing whatsoever.
