Valve has purchased the domain name SteamStatic.com. The domain’s WhoIs records show Valve Corporation as the registrant, having picked up the name earlier this month. Fusible reports Valve transferred the domain to its own name servers this weekend. It doesn’t yet resolve, and there’s no clue as to what it might refer to – could Valve have yet another hardware or service surprise on the way?

Valve is launching Twitch integration for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and it allows spectators to earn in-game item drops simply by watching. Starting with the upcoming linked Steam account will have a chance to receive keyless DreamHack Winter 2013 Souvenir Packages. Basically, these are virtual item drops containing keyless, tournament quality items. Hit up the links for more information.

Valve’s Greg Coomer confirmed to IGN the studio will not making an “exclusive killer app for SteamOS”, going on to say it was against Valve’s philosophy to “artificially drive customers” onto a Steambox. However, he did acknowledge that smaller studios might end up making SteamOS exclusive titles if they don’t have the resources to port the game elsewhere.

PC gaming is dead, but even so Steam has experience a 30 percent growth in its userbase in the past year and has hit 65 million accounts. Also it has more than 3000 games and software applications, so that’s cool. It’ll be interesting to see what Steam Machines do to the userbase next year.

Ikaruga developer Treasure has successfully passed the Steam Greenlight voting process and is bringing the shooter to Valve’s store soon. It’s good news for fans of the game, but the Japanese studio has stressed that language barriers between both companies are making the procedure something of a “hand to hand fight.”

During Nvidia’s Montreal conference, id Software and Oculus Rift man John Carmak said during the Q&A portion of a panel that if it has been “some other random” company other than Valve to come out and announce SteamOS and Steam Box, he would have been “pseudo-scornful” of the move.

Undoubtedly I will be lynched for this, but I don’t really know anything about Dota 2. But I’m told that the long list of changes made in the new 6.79 gameplay update are rather significant, and will result in some big changes. Rather than pretend to know what I’m talking about, I’ll just link to a forum post by a Valve developer which appears to be a preliminary list of the changes you can expect.

Valve has greenlit another batch of 37 titles through Steam Greenlight, which will be offered via worldwide distribution through Steam.
