Paradox planning on Magicka for XBL, says new Syndicate is more like “GTA”

paradoxlogo

Paradox Interactive seems like a wacky place to work. Not Marx Brothers wacky by any means, but only wacky due to the firm’s apparent sense of humor. Proof of this odd sort of thinking can be found in the firm’s list of upcoming titles, and some it’s passed on. Yes, this is the same firm which released Stalin vs Martians, but, there are some things out there that are just too dotty even by Paradox’s standards.

Starbreeze Bourne game is Ascendancy, says CV

bourne11

Another day, another developer CV spilling a bean. This time is looks to be the name of Starbreeze’s EA Bourne title – according to Starbreeze audio director Carl Vikman, it’s called “Bourne Ascendancy”.

Starbreeze was announced as the developer of the next Bourne game in February this year, with a rep to the Ludlum estate even going so far as to say the property was now being handled by “grown-ups”. The previous Bourne game was developed by High Moon and published by Sierra.

The Riddick team is known to be working on the game. There’s no date on it.

Thanks, superannuation.

As reported by Eurogamer, progress with the unreleased GameCube version may have made the Wii version happen, but instead of Starbreeze working on the title, German firm Village1 Entertainment is handling it.

The game does not have a publisher yet, but Village1 expects it to land sometime during early 2010.

Indie devs are more creative, says Starbreeze

riddicka

Want to make super-creative games? Don’t work for a mega-corp.

“I personally think it’s more difficult to be creative in a larger corporate environment,” Starbreeze boss Johan Kristiansson told Develop.

“Larger companies are – by nature – always slower with making decisions in game production. In an independent studio I think the staff usually has a stronger feeling of ownership-attachment to their properties; and you can develop a more tightly knit team over a long period of time as well.”

Kristiansson went as far as to say that publisher input can damage games.

“An independent studio is always going to be more creative, and I think it’s important that publishers let them be independent during production, let them have control of their product,” he added.

“If indies are too close to their publishers, that can also damage the decision making process and the overall game quality.”

Full thing through there.

Riddick team to create Starbreeze’s Bourne game

bourne11

Starbreeze’s Riddick team is to create EA’s upcoming Bourne project.

“It is the same team that’s going to create the Bourne game that did Riddick as well as The Darkness,” Jerk Gustafsson told Eurogamer.

“We’ve already begun work. There are some personnel in a development cycle that are free a little bit earlier than others and those guys have been working on the Bourne project.

“So we’re probably still going to continue creating games the way we do, blending various gameplay elements into a good storyline. I think that’s what we do well.”

Untitled at present, the game is codenamed “P9″, and will have multiplayer capabilities.
