News of the World takes Maddie Bungie story
The News of the World published the Bungie Maddie teaser trailer story over the weekend, but a full-on spread to the British tabloids is now looking less likely.
“Halo team under fire for Maddie ad,” reads the headline, but the story itself is restrained, saying only that it’s unclear whether or not the name will be changed in the game and quoting Bungie passing the incident off as “an unfortunate coincidence”.

Bungie teaser trailer pulled apart, Maddie reference and date seen
Bungie’s Keep it Clean trailer has instantly sparked web-wide analysis, with sites digging through it frame by frame for clues as to what the game may be.
The Xbox Live version of the movie has confirmed that the new Bungie product is a Halo 3 add-on, proclaiming: “High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop!” More on Joystiq.
X3F‘s spotted a date in there as well. January 6, 2009 is clearly included on one of the movie’s frames. See through the link.
Lastly – and this was picked up almost immediately – three frames in the video carry the message, “Maddie, where are you?”
Debate’s kicking off as to whether this is a direct reference to the Madeline McCann disappearance, but you can bet the UK press is going to have an absolute field day with that. Could be highly misjudged, if we know the UK press. See GamesRadar.

It’s here. It shows city streets burnt out after a meteor impact and a “Halo 3″ logo, followed by the words “Prepare to drop.”
The video has the Microsoft Game Studios logo at the end of it.
And that’s that. Watch it. We’re just sorting out a local version.
Update: You can watch it after the break now as well.

New Bungie.net teaser, Pardon our Dust
And here it is. The news item itself is entitled Pardon our Dust and below the image that bears the word “REINITIALIZE” is a transcript which appears to be a conversation between a UNSC Admiral, a Captain and some unknown intelligence.
Most interestingly, the post was made by Bungie.net user lllllll, which when clicked, reveals a profile featuring a picture of the Superintendent and the blurb, “Keep it clean” – an obvious reference to last weekend’s teaser.
Seriously however, we’ve really no idea what’s going on. If you think you do, there’s a comments section down below. Use it.
