Rise of the Tomb Raider will be published by Microsoft, according to Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg.

Greenberg confirmed the news via Twitter when asked whether Square Enix or Microsoft would publish the latest game in the franchise.

Square Enix clarified Greenberg's quote to Gamespot stating that Microsoft would not only publish the game on Xbox consoles, but would also provide development support.

"Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before," said the representative. "We believe [this] will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming".

Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced as an Xbox-exclusive during Gamescom 2014, which raised many an eyebrow.

Soon after the announcement when presses on the matter by Eurogamer, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told the site that the Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal “has a duration”, comparing the agreement with that of Dead Rising and Ryse on Xbox One - both of which are now available on PC.

Spencer declined to state how long the Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusivity period would last.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is expected to arrive on both consoles during holiday 2015.
