Here's how to unlock the true ending in Persona 5 Royal.

Just as in the base game, there's one final "true" ending to achieve in Persona 5 Royal. This ending is viewed as the canonical ending of the game, but you can only achieve it by meeting a few set requirements while playing through the game. In this guide, we'll be walking you through how to unlock the Persona 5 Royal true ending, so you can see the final conclusion to the Phantom Thieves' journey.

How to Unlock the True Ending in Persona 5 Royal

There are four requirements that you need to fulfill in order to see the true ending of Persona 5 Royal. We'll go over these requirements in the list below, before breaking them down in greater detail further down this guide. Note that we won't actually be spoiling the events of the true ending in this guide, we'll just be walking you through achieving it for yourself.

  • Achieve Confidant rank 9 with Takuto Maruki by November 18.
  • Achieve Confidant rank 8 with Goro Akechi by November 24.
  • Achieve Confidant rank 5 with Kasumi Yoshizawa by December 18.
  • Refuse all offers presented by the antagonist in the third semester.

Achieve Confidant Rank 9 With Maruki by November 18

Councillor Maruki is one of the newcomers in Persona 5 Royal. After the events with Kamoshida, he's brought on by Shujin Academy to mentor certain schoolchildren, and while this is at first chiefly Ann and Ryuji, the protagonist also gets to know Dr. Maruki through these sessions.

Levelling up Maruki's social link is relatively simple. There aren't any social stat requirements for increasing Maruki's rank at any point, so whenever you have some free time immediately after school finishes, pop down to the first floor of the practice building to pay him a visit.

Achieve Confidant Rank 8 With Akechi by November 24

While Goro Akechi returns from the original Persona 5, he has a brand new social Confidant link in Royal. To see the true ending of Persona 5 Royal, you need to increase your standing with Goro Akechi to rank eight by the time of November 24.

With Maruki, this is relatively simple. You don't need to have any social stats levelled up to a certain point to initiate hanging out with Akechi, who you can find by the Penguin Sniper darts and billiards place in Kichijoji.

Achieve Confidant Rank 5 With Kasumi by December 18

Kasumi Yoshizawa is a brand new character for Persona 5 Royal. You're only going to see her a handful of times during the main game, and in order to increase your Confidant rank with her to level five, you're going to want to see her whenever you have the opportunity.

As with Akechi, Kasumi will also be hanging out in Kichijoji. All you need to do is approach her on the main promenade section of the city, and initiate conversation to hang out with her for a spell in the evening.

Refuse All Offers Presented by the Antagonist in Third Semester

Again, we're not spoiling anything about the nature of Persona 5 Royal's true ending here, or the events of the game in general. However we will say that a new big bad emerges after the fall of the God of Control from the original game, and this new antagonist will give you the chance to side with them on two occasions, in January and February.

At both of these points, you need to refuse to side with them. These are done through a really simple dialog option both times, and if you reject their offer, by this point you're in the home stretch and well on your way to seeing the true ending of Persona 5 Royal.
