Konami reveals why Metal Gear Solid 5’s secret Nuclear Disarmament ending was unlocked last week

A little over a week ago, the Nuclear Disarmament cut-scene, a secret ending of sorts in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, was unexpectedly unlocked on PC.

The Metal Gear Solid 5 Nuclear Disarmament cut-scene was meant to only be unlocked when every nuke on all player's Mother Bases have been abolished. The odds of this happening, naturally or otherwise, are nigh on impossible, which is why Konami went investigating how the scene was triggered in the first place.

Now, the publisher has unveiled that, as some expected, the game's servers were fed incorrect info. Meaning a hacker made the servers believe that the number of nukes has gone to zero, triggering the scene.

Konami has since taken Metal Gear Solid 5 servers down and implemented "a series of counter-measures" that should prevent this from happening in the future. Servers are now back online and the scene is no longer viewable in-game.

So there you have it, world peace has definitely not been achieved.
