Devil May Cry 5 - demo, playable characters, weapons and more

Devil May Cry 5 was announced last year at E3 and the hype has slowly but surely built up over the last few months.

Dante and Nero will feature as playable characters in Devil May Cry 5, as well as a new character, called V. There will be the usual slew of devastating combos, bizarre weapons and you'll be able to switch between different characters for certain levels which makes each battle feel fresh and unique.

There's not long to go before Devil May Cry 5 hits the shelves on March 8, so let's take a look at everything we know so far.

Devil May Cry 5 demo

The next scheduled demo for Devil May Cry 5 is February 7 for PS4 and Xbox One players.

Devil May Cry 5 pre-orders

There are two pre-order versions for Devil May Cry 5. These are:

If you go for a disc copy, you won't receive any of the extras, unfortunately.

  • The Deluxe Edition

The digital version of the Deluxe Edition also comes with the special costumes, along with 100,00 Red Orbs and the Deluxe Edition Upgrade, which comes with:

  • Gerbera GP01 Devil Breaker
  • Pasta Breaker
  • Sweet Surrender
  • Mega Buster
  • Battle Track DMC1-4 12TRACKS
  • Alt Style Rank Announcers & Alt Title Calls
  • Live Action Cutscenes
  • Cavaliere R

The disc versions come with the Red Orbs and the Deluxe Edition Upgrades mentioned above.

Devil May Cry 5 characters

Nero and Dante make their return in Devil May Cry 5, alongside Lady, Trish and Nico. There's also a new playable character, V, whose fighting style is quite different to that seen with Dante and Nero, namely because he doesn't rip a motorcycle in half in order to grind his foes into dust.

For some of the levels, a character will be chosen for you. In others, you'll choose between two or three characters to play as. This flexibility means that you can experience new and challenging fighting styles, with varying levels of complexity with each character.

Devil May Cry 5 combat and weapons

Look, we know what you're playing Devil May Cry 5 for: using ridiculously brilliant weapons to rack up massive combos to achieve that S rank. The good news is, Devil May Cry 5 delivers on all fronts. The combat is fluid and the weapons and abilities for each character are wild, and it all looks amazing in 4K. Both Alex and Kirk had some hands-on experience playing Devil May Cry 5, so don't just take my word for it.

There will be a new training area called The Void where players new players can familiarise themselves with the combat systems, and where veterans can practice using new weapons and perfect their techniques.

Red orbs, the in-game currency, can be used to upgrade your character by purchasing new skills and as a means to revive on the spot as opposed to the last checkpoint. Red Orbs can be earned in-game or by using your real life money to buy them.

V has the ability to summon three demons to fight alongside him, which are Shadow, Griffin and the aptly named Nightmare. Not only can you unleash these demons, you can get the kill shot but jumping in with your cane and whacking them.

There are eight Devil Breakers that Nero can equip as weapons, as well as a few others including Red Queen, Overture, Punch Line, Pasta Breaker and the Mega Man Mega Buster.

Dante, as we already said, has the Cavaliere R weapon, and in the demo had access to boots for rapid kicking attacks and a sword if you prefer a more balanced approach.

There will be a fulfilling mix of ranged and melee weapons to choose from, which will keep things very interesting.

Devil May Cry 5 releases on March 8 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
