FFXIII gets 39/40 in Famitsu
Famitsu’s given Final Fantasy XIII 39/40, as you can see in this scan on FinalFantasy-XIII.net.
Not as good as Bayonetta, then.
The RPG’s out later this month in Japan. Europe and the US get it in March.
Thanks, Galathor.

Hawk: Reviews smacked RIDE “before they even tried it”
Tony Hawk RIDE’s not very good. Look. Hawk himself reckons the scores are hokum, though. The reviewers just didn’t give the peripheral-based game a chance, apparently.
“They were ready to discredit it before they even tried it, and if it didn’t play exactly how they imagined it… then they passed it off,” Hawk told the Sudbury Star.
“I don’t agree with people who say the board’s not responsive,” he added. “I think that they’re just not giving it a fair shake. And I think a lot of them came into it with an attitude that it’s going to suck.
“I know that [RIDE] is super fun, and I think there’s a misconception that I just stick my name on a game,” he said. “I brought this idea to Activision, and I saw it through, I’ve been playing it every step of the way and I am very proud of it.”
Yeah. Thanks, Kotaku.

Avatar gets rough review reception
Not looking so amazingly hot for James Cameron’s Avatar, with the game picking up some less than impressive review scores, as you can see here.

First Saboteur review is an 8.2 from IGN
IGN AU’s gone live with the world’s first review for EA’s The Saboteur, giving the Parisian WWII actioner 8.2/10.
“While it’s a little rough around the edges we enjoyed this game more than we thought we would,” said the site.
“It’s far from perfect, but it’s great to see Pandemic going out with a bang.”
It’s out this Friday for PC, PS3 and 360. It’s next on the list for us after Assassin’s Creed II.

IGN gives Oz Left 4 Dead 2 version 5/10
Looks as though the censored Left 4 Dead 2 version that finally made release in Australia is a bit… rubbish. IGN AU’s given it 5/10.
Apparently the game’s been compromised by “glitchy-looking edits” and “is a massive step backwards from the original.”
To be clear, “if you can get your hands on an unedited version of this game, revise the score up to high 8s. If not, sit this one out.”
Got that. Hit the link for the full thing.

First Assassin’s Creed II review hits the stands, is a 9/10

OXM may not have a fancy-pants past-rewriting animus at its disposal, but the magazine’s still making some history of its own with the world’s first ever Assassin’s Creed II review. So, how’d Ezio and co. stand up under OXM’s unfaltering scrutiny? Pretty well, as it turns out. The numbers nine and ten were apparently mentioned once or twice, or so we’re hearing.
“OXM’s Mike Channell was the first non-Ubisoft person in the world to complete the game, the company tells us, and he was impressed,” said a post on OXM’s official site. “It addresses nearly all the gripes we had with the original game, including all that artificial flag-collecting nonsense, and delivers a brilliant single-player experience that’s built around a cracking story.”
The new issue – in all its review-packed glory – is on shelves now. Go buy it! Buy it so that the fine folks at OXM can keep telling you what to buy!

Ratchet & Clank demo this Thursday, first review up
A Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time demo will release on PSN this Thursday, as detailed on US PS Blog.
Good news. Better yet, this is the first of two demos, for some reason.
“In this demo, you’ll take get to take control of Clank as he explores the Great Clock learning more about his past and his new time-based abilities that you’ll need to utilize to solve puzzles and defeat some of Dr. Nefarious’ minions,” said SCEA chap, Cristian Cardona.
And IGN’s posted the first review, giving it 9/10 (thanks, Monk).
Good, huh? It’s out on November 6.

PES 2010 reviews go up, EG goes with 7/10
Looks as though this year’s football race is won in terms of quality. The first PES 2010 scores are up, and from first impressions FIFA 10′s stuck one well and truly in the back of the net.
Here’s the lot so far. If you’ve got one you want posting, stick it in the comments.

EG gives Brutal Legend 8/10
After the first IGN-exclusive Brutal Legend reviews yesterday, EG’s gone live with an 8/10.
Snip:
It’s probably Brutal Legend’s characters that win out. Since the days when he provided dialogue options for Guybrush Threepwood, Schafer’s secret skill has been to people his games with lovable oddballs who quickly start to feel like friends, creating bonds strong enough to ensure you forgive some of the ropier moments. In this case, Schafer, Double Fine, and Black haven’t just created a story about roadies: they’ve become them, scuttling about energetically, heads down and minds focused, as they pull a handful of simple props together in order to put on an amazing show.
You can get it in the US now, and Play appears to be selling it in the UK, despite the fact it’s not supposed to come out until Friday over here.

First Saw reviews don’t exude promise
Saw: The Videogame is apparently on the verge of release; IGN’s just given it 7.5/10 in its first review.
It doesn’t sound like the most amazing thing in the world:
It would have taken a lot more polish and time to put Saw up there with the kings of the survival horror genre. But the developers are definitely onto something, and I’d like to see the Saw games improve over time. For now, some of the puzzles repeat a few times too many while the plot points and big scares at times run thin.
But never mind. Buy it anyway. The video review’s after the break, if you want to see it in action.
As for the rest:
It’s out on November 20. Who knew?
