Here's our first look at the updated Sonic the Hedgehog design in the new movie trailer

There's a new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie that features a new and improved design.

Paramount has released the second trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie starring Jim Carrey, ending months of speculation about how the character's design will change.

Today's trailer, seen below, gives us a decent look at the new design, which does away with some of the terrifying features of the original. The new look more closely resembles that seen in the 3D games, with Sonic appearing cute rather than terrifying.

The design of Sonic in the movie has been ridiculed incessantly on social media since its first trailer.

Paramount and director Jeff Fowler vowed to change Sonic's design, a decision that ended up delaying the movie to February. This new look won't impress everyone, but it's much more tolerable.

Sonic the Hedgehog opens February 14.
