The Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer is getting roasted on Twitter

The internet is as horrified and confused about the new Sonic movie trailer as you are.

In case you somehow missed it, the first official trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film debuted today and it's something else.

The trailer gives us a look at Sonic in all his naked glory, as well as Jim Carrey as Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. It seems that we'll be getting an origin story for the characters we all came to know and have mild feelings for back in the 90s. "Every hero has a genesis," is the tagline, which doesn't work so well in the UK, because it was a Mega Drive over here, but no matter.

Perhaps it wouldn't look as creepy if Sonic's design had been more cute and compact, like Detective Pikachu who looks super cuddly in spite of his manly voice. But it's not. Instead, Sonic has the legs of a giraffe. A big blue giraffe who skipped leg day. And I don't like it.

Reactions to the trailer have been a treasure trove of hilarity, regardless of your opinion on the movie so far. The film's official Twitter account has been inundated with thousands of responses, but the social media team seem happy to engage in some jokes at the character's expense, so I'm sure they're not too devastated.

We've rounded up out favourite Twitter responses to the trailer and posted them below. Feel free to add your own additions in the comments. I'm sure there will be plenty to chose from, because the trailer really is some weird s**t.
