Red Dead Redemption 2 features plenty of Stranger Missions for Arthur Morgan to embark on, often seeing him help random folk around the wild west where possible. In The Artist's Way Stranger Mission, Arthur will be playing the good guy once more as he attempts to help a risque artist escape the city.

That's right. Enigmatic artist, Charles Chatenay, has found himself in a spot of bother in the city of Saint Denis and has tasked Arthur with helping him flee the place. So, without further ado, here's our guide to The Artist's Way Stranger Mission and how to help Charles escape Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 The Artist's Way Stranger Mission

To get started, Arthur will need to head to the bar in the east of Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2, which is just above where the 'I' in Denis is on the map. You'll encounter this area naturally once you reach Chapter 3 of RDR2.

You'll find a Frenchman - Charles Chatenay - who'll ask you to buy him a drink, to which Arthur agrees. There's then a bit of banter with him about being a prize asshole and that you shouldn't believe in art.

After a drink and a brief chat, he'll give you a drawing of a woman and you'll both part ways. If you then hang around the area for a while, Charles will eventually leave the bar and head home. You can also go ahead and complete another quest in the meantime, or check out some RDR2 Easter eggs to kill time.

If you wait and follow Charles home, however, you'll hear a nearby commotion. If you approach the white marker on your map which appears while nearby (if you aren't already there), you'll find a man hammering down Charles door and threatening him at gunpoint.

Arthur can then intervene and prevent Charles from being shot. The disgruntled man confronting him will then storm off, and Charles will invite you to his art exhibition to say thank you.

How to help Charles escape Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2

After some time, a new marker will appear on your map showing you where to track down Charles' art exhibition in Red Dead Redemption 2. It'll still be in central Saint Denis, so don't worry about travelling far.

Once you enter the gallery, you'll hear a couple quarrelling about how progressive Charles' art is and how much time the wife is spending with the artist. You can see where this is going...

You can also find a Cigarette Card sitting on the side table in the first room you enter.

Look around the gallery and amongst the busts, you'll spot a painting that looks exactly like Arthur, too. Eventually, you'll reach a room filled with nude paintings of local men and women, which the viewers aren't very pleased about, as you might have expected.

A fight will then ensue, so go ahead and join in the scuffle. Afterwards, Charles will leave and advise he's going to avoid the public eye for a short while. You can then follow Charles to a house that likely belongs to a mistress of his.

Wait for a new marker to appear on your map to then meet up with Charles, who has now disguised himself by dressing as a woman. He'll tell Arthur that the residents of Saint Denis are out for him after the exhibition, and that he plans to leave the city. He'll then ask Arthur for help with his plans to escape.

Make your way over to the trams with Charles, and be sure to stay hidden behind it so a group of men who are after Charles won't find you. Turns out that he shat on their bar, so you'd be wise to do a little run to keep up with the tram.

Keep following him to reach the docks where another group of men will try and attack you both. Take care of them and then send Charles safely on his way.

Eventually, you will receive a reward letter stating that Charles has sold on his works to New York, so his drawing could be worth a few bob if you feel like selling it.
