Doom Eternal’s Battle Pass-style progression system is free

We ran a story yesterday talking about the wider trend of Battle Passes replacing loot boxes and microtransactions in games.

In that feature, we cited Doom Eternal as one such upcoming game that features one of these styles of progression systems and incorrectly assumed it was paid. It is not.

“There’s no store In Doom Eternal,” a Bethesda spokesperson said. “There’s no paid Battle Pass in the game either. You play the game, earn XP, and unlock cool cosmetics. That’s it.”

We’ve covered Doom Eternal extensively on VG247 and it’s one of the games we’re most looking forward to in 2020. The fact it doesn’t have a Battle Pass or any kind of microtransactions is just another feather in its hat - a feather we’re going to glory kill and tear off, along with its head, this March.

For more on Doom Eternal, here are the demons you’ll be up against when you fight through Hell on Earth. And here’s how id Software is shedding the criticisms of Doom 2016 to perfect the deadly Doom dance.
