Cyberpunk 2077 Crafting | Where to get legendary upgrade and item components

Craft your way to the top

While you could say it’s underutilised, Cyberpunk 2077’s crafting system has many useful features, from building your own unique equipment to upgrading your favourite gear.

It’s one of the only ways to ease your reliance on massive corporations, breaking the cycle of consumption by improving items with components you find around Night City.

The rarest of these are legendary upgrade components, legendary item components, and legendary quickhack components.

Using parts scavenged from all over town, you can turn trash into treasure, and keep your favourite equipment relevant for the whole game.

Here’s everything you need to know about Crafting and Upgrading in Cyberpunk 2077:

How to craft in Cyberpunk 2077

Unlike installing Cyberware — which requires a visit to a qualified (or at least hopefully experienced) Ripperdoc — crafting in Cyberpunk 2077 is something V is capable of doing on-the-go.

You'll find the Crafting tab in the game's menu, and from there you can craft just about anything — as long as you have the blueprints for it, and components enough to make it.

And while it's not required, if you're looking to create a character build for V that includes the handiness to eventually make their own high-end gear out of junk, it's worth investing points into the Technical Ability attribute. Developing the crafting skill part of this attribute opens up a possible eighteen different related perks, so be sure to plug a few perk points into that skill tree if you envision your V as a self-sufficient crafter.

Is it worth crafting and upgrading in Cyberpunk 2077?

Sometimes it's difficult to figure out whether you should invest in a game's crafting system - especially when they're not well communicated.

Crafting might be difficult to scrape together the resources for, but you can build some of the game's finest weapons this way.

When you find crafting specs for useful looking items like cool guns, it's worth making them.

However, when it comes to upgrading your gear, there are a couple of things to consider.

Upgrading regular equipment is resource intensive, and you don't get much of a bonus each time you do it.

However, you can re-craft iconic equipment at a higher tier using better quality ingredients. This is definitely worth doing for your favourite items.

Upgrading iconic gear like this gives it a massive DPS or armour boost, which will likely make it relevant until much, much later in the game. It's expensive, but the rewards speak for themselves.

Cyberpunk 2077 Crafting - where to find legendary crafting components

The basics of Cyberpunk 2077’s crafting system is that you can build anything you have the blueprints for, and you can find crafting specs all around Night City.

Top tier crafting specs tend to pop up in loot chests during main missions, as well as the Organised Crime and Assault in Progress missions you use to bolster your Street Cred.

For the best items you also need specific skills, gained by raising your crafting and engineering levels, to unlock the ability to craft them.

With the right knowledge, the only thing left is the right components.

Where to find Legendary Quickhack Components

Quickhack Components are found by breaking down quickhacks, or looted from data terminals you can jack into.

These usually require intelligence and are shown as a red hexagon on your mini-map.

Most often there are three levels of Breach Protocol to crack.

Solving the third line will always net you Legendary Quickhack Components and some from all other tiers too.

Where to find Legendary Item Components

You gather item components by breaking down items of that tier, or loot them from special enemies.

Drones and robots tend to drop rare and higher item components, but to find Legendary ones with greater regularity your best bet is to head to a gun vendor.

At the bottom of their inventory, you’ll find all sorts of crafting materials. It’s reasonably pricey, but this is a much better way to grab as many components as you need.

Where to find Legendary Upgrade Components

These allow you to improve some of the best weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, but are in reasonably short supply.

Just like the item components, your best bet is to buy them from gun vendors.

However, I’ve also found these rarely from Assault in Progress world events, so it’s always worth stopping to complete them.
