Borderlands 2 has been updated, and with it, comes: the new difficulty mode Ultimate Vault Hunter; new items for the Black Market; new upgrades to backpack storage; upgraded bank capacity; the usual bug fixes, plus some game and mission fixes. It’s out now on Steam, and PCgamesN has the full patch notes.

Remember the Borderlands 2 character DLC tease from last week? Well, we have it again for you, but it’s not off-screen this time. The DLC was teased during SXSW, and it appears to be a melee-based character. Gearbox said the character isn’t part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, and 2K said the reveal will take place at PAX East next weekend. Enjoy your 43 second below.

Violence in video games is a hot button issue in some circles, with pundit going as far as to blame gun violence on crimes committed around the world, and most recently in the US. One of the most vocal accusers of late, is the EVP of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre, who in the wake of the school shooting in Connecticut called the video game industry a “callous, corrupt, and corrupting shadow industry that sells and sows violence against own people, through vicious violent video games.” His opinion, is not one which Gearbox president Randy Pitchford shares.

A new trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines has been released, and it’s a “kick ass” one, according to the video description by SEGA. You can watch it below. If you plan on picking the game up on PC, you can now pre-purchase it on Steam and receive the S.H.A.R.P. Stick (sonic-harpoon artillery remote projectile rifle) for your trouble. Game’s out February 12.

Gearbox has announced that Aliens: Colonial Marines has gone gold for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Time to start channeling your inner Ripley. You don’t have much longer to wait: it’s out February 12. The PC crowd can check out specs here and everyone can watch the latest trailer here.

As expected, the latest DLC for Borderlands 2 launches today (tomorrow for PAL PS3 owners). Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt takes place in the swamps of Pandora and pits would-be adventurers against Vampire Witch Doctors and Slagged Spores, all in the name of loot, of course.

Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt is the third of four DLC add-ons covered by Borderlands 2′s “season pass”, the fourth piece of DLC is due by June of this year.

Borderlands 2 players are privy to a special event this weekend event, which should help them get prepped for Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt’s release next week. Last night, “an influx of powerful shotguns” where spread throughout Pandora, while today, it’s all about grenade mods. You can get more information on the Gearbox community site. Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt releases on January 15 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
