Valheim breaks 500,000 concurrent players, overtakes Dota 2

Valheim has gone from strength to strength.

Shortly after Valheim developer Iron gate announced that the game had sold more than 3 million copies in a little over two weeks, the survival game got another boost in active players.

After shooting up to Steam's top-three most played games at launch, with over 367,443 players at peak concurrent, the game has now smashed that already impressive figure over the course of last week and again on the weekend.

Valheim's record now stands at 502,387 players all online at the same time. It has been growing so quickly, in fact, SteamCharts has yet to catch up with the most up-to-date number.

Having over half-a-million active players was enough for Valheim to overtake Dota 2, and claim the second spot behind the juggernaut Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. At the time of writing, Valheim sits at number three behind the two games, but this could flip again as more players log in later today.

It's hard to predict where Valheim could go from there. There's room for figures to go even higher, but it's unlikely for things to reach PUBG-levels of meteoric success. Time will tell, of course, as even PUBG was never predicted to overtake CS:GO or Dota 2.

Our always-updated and popular guides are a great resource for all types of players, covering everything from getting started with resource gathering and crafting, to taking down the game's mighty world bosses like the Kraken, Yagluth and much more.
