Pokemon Go Ditto disguises list 2022: how to catch a Ditto

Catching Ditto in Pokemon Go can be a real pain. Because Ditto can shapeshift, you never know quite where to find one. Here's how to find and catch Ditto.

One of the most elusive Pokemon remains the shape shifting critter Ditto - and in Pokemon Go, that can lead to some significant frustration, as Ditto is always wearing disguises. On this page, we explain the how to can catch Ditto and list the current Ditto disguises to find it in the wild

Ditto is an absolutely key Pokemon in Pokemon Go, and that's despite it not being the sort of Pokemon that could ever rank on the best Pokemon Tier lists. Its unpredictable nature means it isn't even really very useful for battle. It also can't be obtained in the usual methods - it can't be hatched from eggs, and is rarely a field research quest reward. It's a pain.

Despite this, Ditto is a Pokemon that dedicated trainers must catch. Every now and then, some of of Pokemon Go's special missions have a requirement to catch a Ditto - and you'll need it to complete your Pokedex. This page will help you to track some down. This page was updated to be current in June 2022.

How to find and catch Ditto in Pokemon Go

The whole point of Ditto is that it is a disguise-based Pokemon. It likes to shape shift and hide itself as other Pokemon - and that's what it does in the wild.

Essentially, to catch a Pokemon Go Ditto you only have one route open to you - to catch the Pokemon that Ditto is hiding as and hope that Ditto will appear from one of them. The Ditto List - Pokemon it disguises itself as - is changed every now and then in Pokemon Go, and we'll do our best to keep this page updated to match that.

Ditto doesn't have any tells - it'll look & act like the Pokemon it's hiding at until the moment it's caught. All you can do is catch the Ditto disguise list Pokemon and hope. In addition, the disguises rotate semi-regularly.

If you're struggling to find one of these critters, here's one tip: Ditto is harder to catch than the Pokemon it hides as. What we mean by this is that a Pokeball is less likely to succeed on a Ditto of the same CP as the Pokemon it's hiding as - so if you see a lower CP Pokemon from the list on this page that seems to be mysteriously avoiding capture, it might be worth using a berry and an Ultra Ball, just in case. With that said, there's no guarantee. The spawn rate is pretty brutal.

Shiny Ditto also exists in the game. Every Ditto appearance has a chance to be shiny, but the Pokemon it's disguised at will not appear as Shiny on the map.

Our advice is not to sweat catching Ditto in Pokemon Go too much. It's not something that's possible to farm, given the very long odds of the ditto spawn rate - just keep playing and eventually it'll happen. As mentioned earlier, this isn't a Pokemon that'll change your life in terms of battles - in fact, it's largely useless in battle. So just take it easy. The Ditto-centric field research missions aren't going anywhere.
