Civilization 6: Gathering Storm adds Canada and an Ice Hockey Rink

The Canadians are coming to Civilization 6 in the Gathering Storm update.

The next expansion to Civilization 6 will release in February, and adds the Canada civilization along with Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier.

Considered one of the country's greatest statesmen, Laurier was strong supporter of uniting French and English-speaking citizens.

His unique ability is The Last Best Wish, which allows Canada to build farms on Tundra terrain. It also reduces the cost of purchasing Snow and Tundra tiles by half. Gathering accumulated resources from Snow and Tundra tiles will also yield twice the usual amount.

Canada's unique ability in Civilization 6: Gathering Storm is Four Faces of Peace. This ability prevents Canada from declaring surprise wars on opponents or declaring war on City-States. This also means surprise wars can’t be declared against Canada.

It also grants bonus Diplomatic Favor based on per-turn Tourism. Canada will also receive extra Diplomatic Favor from successfully completing Emergencies or Scored Competitions.

One of the unique buildings are Ice Hockey Rinks which grant additional "Appeal and Amenity," along with and bonus culture for each adjacent Snow, Snow Hills, Tundra, and Tundra Hills tile.

Once the Flight technology is unlocked, it grants Tourism from Culture; after unlocking the Professional Sports Civic, it awards additional Production and Food.

Of course, it wouldn't be Canadian without Mounties. This unique, modern-era unit has the ability to create a National Park. The unit also receives combat bonuses when fighting near a National Park, and an additional combat bonus if the National Park is owned by Canada.

Civilization 6: Gathering Storm release on February 14 for PC. It will also feature the seafaring Maori and New Zealand.
