Nier developer wants an HD Wii, stat!

Nier director Yoko Taro’s got a blog. Sometimes, he writes things on that blog. Sometimes, those things are about the Wii’s lack of graphical power. This is one of those times.
According to a post translated by Andriasang, Taro got an eyeful of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. And while Crystal Bearers sparkled just enough to get passing marks from the developer, the Wii itself didn’t fare so well.
“Bearers’ graphics are well done,” Taro wrote. “I get the feeling that you could call them the highest level for Wii. However, SD graphics are just painful. This is the limits of the hardware, so you can’t do anything about it.”
“Nintendo should use their profits to make a backwards compatible HD Wii, or release an optional upconverter for the Wii, or give the television industry money to properly handle SD video,” he suggested.

Square teases Nier Replicant in latest issue of Famitsu

The new issue of Famitsu has a two-page advert for Nier Replicant with the tagline “Beyond revenge lies crazed desperation.”
This is a Square Enix thing, which promises to reveal what it’s all about next week.
If the “Neir” part sounds familiar to you, 1UP has you covered.
Nier’s the Cavia-developed action game slated for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, and Square wanted it to be a “hit in the West”, so plans to release it in Japan were shelved for a while, but Nier was formally announced for Japan today under the name Nier Gestalt.
As far as Nier Replicant is concerned though, guess we’ll find out next week.

Square Enix sword-swinger NIER gets first trailer, website

Announced yesterday, Square Enix’s PS3/Xbox 360 action title NIER has, at long last, begun its pre-E3 info trickle. For now, you’ve got a website and a trailer to fuel your speculations.
Personally, we’re thinking fairly straightforward brawler on this one. Check out the trailer — which features a particularly angry man tearing through shadow men like they’re stuffed with delicious candy — after the break.
Thanks, Siliconera.

Front Mission Evolved and NIER revealed in Square’s E3 announcement

Square Enix announced third-person shooter Front Mission Evolved in the press release for its E3 line-up today.
Developed by Double Helix for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, the strategy series is now a shooter and features both single and multiplayer campaigns. There’s no release date for it yet.
NIER was also sneakily announced in the same breath, and is being developed by Cavia for PS3 and Xbox 360. The action-adventure game is set to release sometime next year and promises to be set “in a crumbling world plagued by disease and dark, unrecognizable creatures.”
Players assume the role of Nier, who is out to find a cure for his daughter who is infected with the Black Scrawl virus.
Interesting.
