You get to body the Warrior of Light in Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin’s first DLC

Fight Bahamut and the Warrior of Light in the upcoming Stranger of Paradise DLC.

If, like me, you can't get enough of the unlikley collaboration of publisher Square Enix and developer Team Ninja, you're probably counting down the days until the new Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin downloadable content.

Named “Trials of the Dragon King”, we learned today that the game will embrace chaos and launch on July 20 – but for long-term Final Fantasy fiends, there's a fun little twist in the DLC. Trials of the Dragon King includes new jobs, weapons, accessories, and a new category of equipment, as well as new areas, stories, and challenges to boot. But there's one thing that stands out.

If you've played the base game – maybe one of the best 3/5 games I've ever played – you'll know that the title is something of an origin story for the big bad of FFI.

It stands to reason, then, that the DLC will see you fight the hero of the first game; the honorable Warrior of Light. “You will die here,” he says in the trailer, “and I will live forever.” Nice.

Of course, the Warrior of Light doesn't come alone – the protagonist of the first game is rocking the series-famous Bahamut as back-up. That'll be the titular Dragon King, then. Check the trailer to see what kind of a fight this will be (read: hard); Bahamut has sweepers, ranged blasts, devastating melee hits, and more. Expect Mega Flare to do you in, in one go. Lovely.

If you want more bang for your gil, you'll be pleased to note that anyone that purchases the Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Season Pass will receive “Trials of the Dragon King” alongside the upcoming “Wanderer of the Rift” (Gilgamesh?) and “Different Future” (Bhunivelze?) missions.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store, and the DLC will launch on all platforms July 20.
