Looks like Monster Energy is behind the Gods and Monsters name change to Immortals: Fenyx Rising.

According to documents dug up by TechRaptor, Monster Energy contested Ubisoft’s trademark for Gods and Monsters, leading to the game’s name being changed to Immortals: Fenyx Rising.

Monster Energy claimed the game’s original name would cause confusion due to its various trademarks using the word Monster.

Ubisoft denied there would be any confusion as there are other trademarks that use the word monster or monsters.

And while the company could have fought Monster Energy, and possibly won according to Hoeg Law, it seems time and money was better spent on just changing the game’s name.

Announced as Gods and Monsters during E3 2019, it was originally slated to release in February of this year. The game was held back before resurfacing with a new name.

We went hands-on with Immortals: Fenyx Rising ahead of Ubisoft’s recent Forward event last week. If you missed it, you should give our preview a read.

It’s coming December 3 to PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia, and PC via the Epic Games Store and Uplay.
