Valve is celebrating the upcoming release of Half-Life: Alyx by making all games in the Half-Life Series free to play for Steam users until the VR title is released.

This includes Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

The original story follows.

An interesting notification was sent to Steam users yesterday, stating the Half-Life Collection would be free-to-play.

As noted by various Steam forum users, the notification described a Half-Life: Alyx event where the Half-Life Collection would be free until the game's release.

Thing is, as PC Gamer notes, there isn't a Half-Life Collection available on Steam - but there is a Half-Life Complete offering.

The event page the notification linked to has since been removed, and as of press time, shows an error message.

All Half-Life offerings including The Orange Box still show pricing, so it's possible Valve will put the event live later today or sometime this week, unless there was a mistake.

Half-Life: Alyx is Valve's virtual reality title and is slated for release in March. Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, in the game Alyx and her father Eli “mount an early resistance to the Combine’s brutal occupation of Earth.”

As Alyx, you will engage in combat, solve puzzles, and explore a world turned derelict thanks to an alien invasion.
