Kotaku reports that according to the latest year in review report from stream tools company StreamElements, Grand Theft Auto 5 is the most watched game on Twitch, dominating a chart full of games that have solidly lodged themselves at the top for multiple years running.
It might sound slightly surprising that a game that’s eight years old is still topping the Twitch charts, but that’s because Twitch doesn’t differentiate between Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online, the source of the former’s extremely long tail and a seemingly endless source of content for the streaming giant and those who use it. Other games that have staying power in the chat include League of Legends, Fortnite, and Valorant.
Elsewhere in the report, the most-watched new IP came in at #18 in New World, Amazon’s popular MMORPG. And you can see a healthy dose of mobile games charting high numbers as well, like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG MOBILE.
Even away from Twitch, Grand Theft Auto Online continues to be a phenomenon with regular updates. That doesn’t keep fans from asking where the next entry in the series is, though. Not that developer Rockstar can do no wrong with the series, though, as the bungled GTA Trilogy release prompted it to give away a free game as an olive branch to dissatisfied players to make up for things.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Grand Theft Auto Online is also available for the same systems.
