Garry's Mod lures pirates to the ban hammer

The eponymous creator of Garry's Mod has identified a number of pirate users of his popular sandbox title with a delightful trolling session.

Gamepron reports an error was deliberately introduced to Garry's Mod, causing pirate users only to receive a mysterious error message.

Reporting the "unable to shade polygon normals" error not only identified pirates, but also revealed the user's steam ID.

An innocent query from Garry Newman accompanied a rash of reports on the official forums. Permanent bans were quick to descend.

Garry's Mod is a commercial indie release available on Steam, which allows users to fiddle with the Source engine and various Valve props to create machinima, games, or general hilarity.
