Spike Chunsoft's Attack on Titan game lets you play as the three main characters, which also means they can get eaten.
Siliconera, presumably reporting from new Japanese magazines, has word that Eren, Mikasa and Armin will all be playable in story mode. Characters will develop throughout story mode.
There's also multiplayer for up to four players, but it's not clear whether our heroes will be playable in multiplayer, or who the fourth character will be if so.
The core gameplay is action, and is intended to replicate the speed of 3D Gear combat seen in the anime. If players fail in battle, they will be eaten by a Titan. NPCs in each mission can be eaten, too, although players have a chance to snatch them back by chopping off a Titan's arm.
Although western release hasn't been confirmed, Attack on Titan is due on 3DS in Japan in December. We're expecting more details after the Tokyo Game Show, which runs September 19 through 22.
Attack on Titan - or Shingeki no Kyojin - is set in a world in which humanity has retreated inside a walled city to escape extinction due to gigantic humanoid creatures. It began as a manga and has since spawned an anime which is proving popular in the west. I just remembered I haven't seen the latest episode. Goodbye.
