Dota 2′s end of year event has once more been interrupted by in-canon interference, this time from “the only king that matters“. Destructoid points out that the Skeleton King is no longer playable in-game, and his puppet has vanished from the Frostivus page. Scour the page to harvest clues from the barely decipherable text in the background, and stay tuned to Valve to find out what it all means.

Dota 2 is hosting an end-of-year holiday event called Frostivus this month, and although we don’t have concrete details yet, Valve has begun teasing the festive happenings.

Consider this a friendly reminder regarding the Major League Gaming Championship in Columbus: it started yesterday, and continues today with Call of Duty: Ghosts and Dota 2 tournaments. The latter’s prize pool now stands at $133,890, thanks to increasing sales of the Dota 2 MLG Championship Bundle. The first-ever competition for Call of Duty: Ghosts has a $50,000 prize pool. The prize pool for the Dota 2 MLG Championship in Columbus has risen to $108,000 and it will continue to go up, Major League Gaming has announced. The prize pool grows as more people purchase the Dota 2 MLG Championship Bundle which comes with the Deathbringer Courier, HUD, Ward, Battle Bonus and eligibility for game item drops during the Championship. Undoubtedly I will be lynched for this, but I don’t really know anything about Dota 2. But I’m told that the long list of changes made in the new 6.79 gameplay update are rather significant, and will result in some big changes. Rather than pretend to know what I’m talking about, I’ll just link to a forum post by a Valve developer which appears to be a preliminary list of the changes you can expect.

Major League Gaming has published the broadcast schedule for its Fall Invitational event, which runs Friday and Saturday this week. The Dota 2 tournament will seed into the International Competition at the MLG Championship in Columbus in November, while in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Complexity will defend its title from all comers. Both competitions feature four teams and a grand prize of $15,000. Tune in on MLG.tv; the whole event will be streamed for free. Those who attend in person can purchase VIP passes. Insomnia has kicked off in Telford, Shropshire, UK which will include a Team Fortress 2 tournament over the weekend. Other competitive matches this weekend include: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Halo 4, League of Legends, Shootmania, and the StarCraft 2 WCG UK finals. All can be watched via the Insomnia live stream on Twitch. This is the 49th Insomnia, dubbed i49 for all intents and purposes, and it’s the largest LAN event in the UK.
