Sega Master System turns 25

sms

Despite NES and Mario turning 25, we didn't forget about this. Honestly.

Twenty-five years ago on Wednesday, the Sega Master System released in Japan under the name "Sega Mark III."

It wouldn't release until 1986 in North America and 1987 in PAL regions.

The console would see the debuts of Sonic, Outrun, Alex Kidd, Phantasy Star and After Burner, to name a few.

The SMS was discontinued in 1989 in Japan, 1992 in North America and in 1996 in Europe.

Thanks, Kotaku.
