Report - US tablet owners doubled over 2011 holidays

A new report shows 19% of US adults now own tablet computers.

The figure has almost doubled since mid-December 2011's 10%, according to the Pew Internet and American Life Project's report.

That percentage doesn't included dedicated eBook readers, which also enjoyed an identical surge in popularity, from 10% to 19%.

When the two kinds of devices are combined, the figure jumps to 29% - over a quarter of US adults now own some sort of digital reader. Before the holidays, that figure stood at 18%.

The report credits reduced prices for the startling increase, which followed several months of flat sales.

Over 4,000 respondents were polled to achieve the results, which Pew claims grants it a 2% plus-minus margin of error.

Tablets were all the rage at CES 2012; Razer unveiled a new model with dedicated gaming controls, capable of native PC gaming support.
