Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning cinematics built with mo-cap

Jumping on board an increasingly prevalent industry trend, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning roped real-world actors into ping-pong ball covered suits to build its cinematics.

In a new developer diary, cinematics director Marty Stoltz reveals the cinematic's creation at EA Vancouver's mocap studio. Actors took their cues from a stand-in animation played on a big screen.

You can get a sneak peek at the resulting cutscenes in the rest of the video, along with some discussion of the challenges of game cinematics.

This is the second episode of Inside Reckoning; the previous episode discussing narrative design.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is expected on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2012.
