Japanese charts: Modern Warfare 3 bests high-profile regional favorites

Media Create has released its weekly sales chart, and Modern Warfare 3 topped the software chart, besting high-profile Japanese debuts Ni no Kuni and One Piece Gigant Battle

The shooter's debut moved 180,372 units on PS3 and 30,467 units on Xbox 360 for a combined 210,839 units sold. Last year, Black Ops debuted with 159,201 combined units on both platforms.

Modern Warfare 3's distributor in Japan is Square Enix, and the version topping the charts this week is subtitled, with a dubbed version expected for a mid-December release.

Nacmo's One Piece Gigant Battle! 2 came in second to the shooter with 116,062 units moved on NDS, and Level-5's lovely PS3 title, Ni no Kuni came in third with 67,032 units.

Other top 20 debuts for the week were Saints Row: The Third, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

3DS was still the top selling system in the hardware sector for the week, and both PS3 and PSP saw double sales growth over the prior week. New colors for both systems were attributed to the rise in sales.
