Ghost Recon: Wildlands is getting loot boxes

Ghost Recon: Wildlands will soon get Battle Crates, the game's version of randomised loot boxes.

Battle Crates will be available in Ghost Recon: Wildlands before the end of the month, as part of the Extended Ops update. Battle Crates are loot chests that contain a random assortment of cosmetic items.

They can be purchased from the in-game store for 400 Credits, and unlocks three items you don't already own, meaning no duplicates. When the update releases, all players will get two free crates; the Spec Ops Crate, and the Ghost War Crate. These can be redeemed through the Ubisoft Club.

The names of the crates denote the contents. The Spec Ops focusing on single-player and co-op items, while the Ghost War Crate unlocks items for use in the Ghost War PvP mode.

Spec Ops Crates contain Epic weapons, Exotic weapons, vehicles and other cosmetics. Ghost War Crates also include Exotic weapons, customisation items, and a new line of skins only found in these boxes, called Icons. Though they do include weapons, they'll only be reskins of existing ones.

This crate distinction is a bit weird, though, seeing as Ubisoft confirmed that all cosmetic items can be used in both campaign/co-op as well as Ghost War.

All items, excluding Icons, can also be purchased directly in any of the store packs available since launch.

Ubisoft said it does not intend to include anything that affects gameplay, or player progression in Battle Crates. You can expect to find over 200 items in them in Rare, Epic, and Legendary rarities.
