Final Fantasy 7 Remake: watch a brief comparison with the 1997 original

The return of Final Fantasy 7 Remake during last night's State of Play stream brought us plenty of new footage, enough for some comparison shots.

In case you missed it - as rumours suggested - the biggest game shown at Sony's State of Play livestream was the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

We were treated to decent chunk of footage showing the upgraded visuals from the game's opening, with the promise of more to come. This was our first look at Final Fantasy 7 Remake in years, and it naturally left plenty of people excited for the future.

Over on Twitter, @Haidox3D put together a short video with a direct comparison of the original 1997 release right alongside the modern remake. This may just be the most dramatic jump in visual fidelity for any of these remakes, perhaps even more so than Resident Evil 2.

It's particularly impressive in scenes with closeups of characters, which is undoubtedly why these were chosen for the trailer. Watch it in full below:
