Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Quickening Explained - How Does Quickening Work? Concurrences and Combos

Quickening is a mechanic that veteran Final Fantasy 12 fans might not be familiar with, so we've put together this guide on how to get to grips with this new feature.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age might have some weird quirks that most players might not be familiar with, with mechanics like Quickenings and Espers that most players might not be all too familiar with. For players of the original Final Fantasy XII, you might be familiar with Quickenings and Espers, but there have been some key changes made in this faithful remaster of Final Fantasy 12. This Final Fantasy 12 Quickenings guide will help explain the feature, along with delving into the depths of Quickening combos.

Final Fantasy 12 Quickenings

Final Fantasy 12's Quickenings are effectively a version of Limit Breaks. A huge change from the vanilla release is that these special attacks no longer cost MP, nor give you any MP. Each character has 3 Quickenings available. and every quickening license on a particular job board will get you that certain character's level 1 version of that quickening, meaning that you'll later be able to strengthen it by activating the more powerful nodes on the Licensing Board. Below you will be able to find which quickenings characters have.

Final Fantasy 12 Character Quickenings

Vaan

  • Red Spiral
  • White Whorl
  • Pyroclasm

Balthier

  • Fires of War
  • Tides of Fate
  • Element of Treachery

Fran

  • Feral Strike
  • Whip Kick
  • Shatterheart

Basch

  • Fulminating Darkness
  • Ruin Impudent
  • Flame Purge

Ashe

  • Northswain's Glow
  • Heaven's Wrath
  • Maelstrom's Bolt

Penelo

  • Intercession
  • Evanescence
  • Resplendence

Now that you know the powers of each character, you have to activate these powers with a bar known as the Mist Gauge, this will build up as you unlock more quickenings on the Job Board. You will also be able to chain quickenings together in combos, meaning that you can go straight into another. You will see the characters that can follow up on your quickening easily by a pop-up that comes up in battle. It should also be noted that comboing together quickenings will also make your Mist Gauge bar grow quicker. If yu will be able to react quickly enough, there's almost no limit to chaining together Quickenings, thanks to the recharging of your Mist Gauge. However, this isn't the only benefit of quickenings on your party.

Final Fantasy 12 Concurrences Guide

Concurrences can happen after you complete a Quickening chain. These vary in power and are all based upon what quickenings you use, and how you're able to charge them.
