David Cage: “I’m not creating products, I’m trying to create experiences"

Heavy Rain was received with mixed reactions when it launched in 2010, and creator David Cage has shed light on why making a sequel was the last thing he wanted to do. He's also explained why he feels he is making experiences, not products.

Speaking with Kotaku, Cage said, “I’m not creating products, I’m trying to create experiences. I try to be sincere in what I’m doing.

"Yeah, we heard a lot of good things. We heard a couple of bad things. Good, let’s move on. Let’s try to do something better next time and maybe something else totally different. The only thing I didn’t want to do was a sequel to Heavy Rain.

"Like, ‘Oh let’s just do the same thing. Fix a couple of things here and there and just release the same game pretty much.’ We started from a blank page [with Beyond: Two Souls] and we tried to create an experience that would be different, that would play differently.”

Beyond certainly is a different beast to Heavy Rain, as you can read in Pat's hands-on preview here. There's also three rather impressive gameplay videos in there too.

Are you glad Cage didn't just plump for a slightly enhanced sequel to Heavy Rain? Let us know below.

Beyond: Two Souls hits PS3 on October 8.
