Blizzard denies Diablo III February dating

Retailers have no idea when Diablo III will arrive, Blizzard has confirmed.

Blizzard community manager Bashiok has dismissed retailer suggestions of a February 1 release date for Diablo III, saying the game goes undated.

"Retailers will not know a date until its officially announced through a press release," he said, adding

"Any store or person claiming otherwise is guessing.

"We can't really keep every individual retail shop from making up a date," he concluded.

Best Buy sparked furious delight over the weekend by posting a February 1 release date for upcoming dungeon crawler Diablo III; Joystiq even has a photo of an apparent in-store sign advertising a midnight launch. UK retailer Gameplay also added its vote, for February 3.

Blizzard has been vehement that the long-awaited sequel will arrive when it's ready and not before; all signs point to a 2012 release.

Thanks, Blue.
