GameStop has said it expects Sony to move 2 million or so more PS4 consoles by the end of the quarter. The figure was dropped during a call to investors this afternoon to discuss the firm’s latest financial figures, and notes its current allocation of consoles have sold out. The firm concluded that there are 2.3 million customers waiting for PS4 consoles. Sony announced last week that PS4 moved over one million units during its first 24-hours on sale in North America. GameStop will be hosting pre-launch events in North America for PlayStation 4 on November 10. The events will take place at all stores, and each will be offering customers triple bonus credit on hardware traded towards a pre-ordered PS4. That’s around 90% extra credit to use in-store. Activities, refreshments and giveaways will be hosted at select locations and come November 14, “all eligible GameStop stores” will remain open leading up to the midnight launch of PS4. Gamestop has reopened its US Xbox One pre-orders for a “limited time” for customers willing to throw down $100 towards the console’s $499 price. These pre-orders will guarantee a console on its November 22 launch date and only one will be available per customer. Watch Dogs has been delayed into spring 2014, Ubisoft announced today, along with a delay for The Crew, it’s open-world racer. Due to the delays, the firm has revised its financial expectations for fiscal year 2014.

With next-gen consoles likely to push holiday sales figures up even higher than usual, GameStop has elected to create thousands of temporary jobs in an effort to meet demand. Gamespot reports the retail chain will hire 17,000 staff across the US ahead of the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The holiday period accounts for 40% of GameStop’s annual sales, and the chain understandably described its hiring plans as “critical” to success. Between 25-30% of temporary staff go on to secure permanent positions with the chain, the company added. Both the PS4 and Xbox One launch in November.

GameStop feels the next-gen console launch this holiday season will be “the largest console launch in history.” These words were uttered by GameStop CEO Paul Raines during the company’s Q2 2013 call to investors today. Bartel also said the retailer’s launch allocations for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were “much stronger” than for PS3 and Xbox 360, with the retail chain increasing the supply chain capacity by 60% to ready itself for launch. On the call president Tony Bartel also said that PS4 seemed to be the most popular system with its PowerUp Rewards program members, as firm has 1.5 million members on its PS4 first-to-know list and 700,000 on the Xbox One list. Gamestop appears to be doing the Hokey Pokey with the Xbox One. The retail chain had halted pre-orders before re-opening them this weekend, only to close them once more; clicking through to any of the day one bundles on Gamestop now results in a “currently unavailable online” message. Gamestop has also had trouble keeping up with PlayStation 4 pre-orders, and Amazon and Best Buy have had similar difficulties.
