Sony has Twitter teased the masses today with what appears to be a surprise of sorts for Demon’s Souls players.
Here’s the tweet:
Heroes of Boletaria, take heart: rumor has it the Old One’s power will falter in the days following the winter solstice #demonssouls
The only thing we can figure out, same with Cinemablend, is that the difficulty may get taken down a notch come the solstice on December 21.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Demon’s Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki has told Game Informer that the game’s difficulty was designed so that players would feel “a sense of accomplishment” regarding the collection of souls.
“If the Souls could be recovered anytime, there would be no suspense or sense of accomplishment,” he said. “[We want players to feel] like, ‘I can’t die until I get all those souls back,’ or ‘I did it! I made it to my bloodstain!’”
For those of you who have yet to play it, souls gained through fallen enemies are lost once you die. You only regain them if you make it back to your “bloodstain” on the ground without dying on the way – because there can only be one bloodstain at a time.
Mind you, you have to fight everything again, so if you do make it back you the souls you had when you met your demise for the 800th time will be there waiting, which means double the souls in a sense.
The game is difficult, no doubt about it. Currently, the game is being played in the next room and we hear very loud obscenities coming from it as we type.

Those who play Demon’s Souls online will be in for a treat this Halloween, with what apparently sounds like a bit of a hard quest.
We’ll let the PR explain it to you.
“Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One’s power grows,” announced Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, shuffling awkwardly under the weight of his full set of fluted armor.
“We’ve discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow’s Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don’t know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully.”
Jabbari then cackled as he quickly put a Thief’s ring on his finger and disappeared.
Demon’s Souls is out now for PS3.

No one owns Demon’s Souls yet. No one. The game doesn’t release for another few days. Procurring an early copy is impossible. Even if you’re the President.
But, hypothetically, if you’ve somehow managed to weasel your way into a copy of Demon’s Souls before its release date, Atlus would like you to know that the game’s online servers won’t be live until October 6. The publisher told us as much in a press email.
For now, you’ll just have to make do with single player. Or you would, if you had a copy of Demon’s Souls. Which you don’t.

Some new Demon’s Souls screens popped up on the internet today. Some are new at any rate.
The PS3 exclusive is expected to land on shelves October 6 in the US.
So far, it’s still an import for the UK, but it sure looks worth it despite the scariness of those fire breathing bee thingies.
Head on over to Kotaku and have a look.
