Pirated copies of Windows can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free

Windows 10 will release this summer, and even if you have a pirated version of previous Windows releases, you can still upgrade to the new OS for free.

Yeah, I had to do a double take when I heard that too.

Speaking with Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson said any user with a qualified device is welcome to the upgrade.

"We are excited to launch Windows 10 this summer," said the representative. "Anyone with a qualified device can upgrade to Window 10, including those with pirated copies of Windows.

"We believe customers over time will realise the value of properly licensing Windows and we will make it easy for them to move to legitimate copies."

Microsoft is launching Windows 10 this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages, and it will be a free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 users.
