Xbox 360 has moved 55 million consoles in six years

Microsoft has announced Xbox 360 has now sold sold 55 million consoles across 38 countries during the six years it's been on the market.

The console, according to NPD, as maintained the top spot on the console charts for the past eleven months, and during the first four months of 2011, Xbox 360 has seen a 29 percent year-over-year increase in sales.

Microsoft said this figure is "triple the growth of PlayStation 3 and the largest growth of any console on the market."

The firm also said there are now 35 million active Xbox Live members worldwide "spending an average of almost 60 hours a month on the service," which means that cumulatively, Live members are now logging 2.1 billion hours a month on the service. That's three-times the amount of usages compared to a year ago.

Microsoft also said it has sold more than 10 million Kinect sensors and more than 10 million standalone Kinect games worldwide, making the Xbox 360 console more of an entrainment device than ever before.

The firm expects 2011 to "once again be a high water mark as the best year ever for the brand."

It also sent over a handy graph which you can check out below.
