Witcher dev: "too early" to discuss multiplayer hire

CDPR has told Eurogamer that it's "way too early" to talk about the implications of hiring a multiplayer guy at the Witcher studio.

"As for the job ad: this post should be named Multiplayer/Online Programmer," said marketing head Michal Platkow-Gilewski. "I don't want to comment on what this guy will create, it's way too early."

Platkow-Gilewski added that CDPR is just feeling its way into the future with this hire, and that nothing concrete's been decided as regards to multiplayer as yet.

"We want to bring to the team someone experienced in this field to evaluate our concepts and ideas. He will be one of backbone elements of our R&D," he said.

"We believe that there's still a lot of space for innovation in the RPG genre. At this stage of our games' development, we want to explore all possible directions, check what would be cool, what's feasible and - always the most important for us - what suits our games the best."

CD Projekt Red posted an ad this week searching for a multiplayer programmer.

It said the new staffer would be "creating a roadmap of changes necessary to add multiplayer to the Red Engine," and that experience of Xbox 360, PS3 and PC RPG development is a “plus.”

The Polish studio is currently working on an adaption of Cyberpunk.
