Watch Notch pour a bucket of ice water over his head

The latest video craze means we get to watch a lot of people torture themselves for our entertainment charity.

This is a video of Mincecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson pouring a bucket of ice water over himself.

The video is part of the Ice Bucket Challenge, a clever scheme to raise awareness of and funds towards a cure for ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease - a progressive neurodegenerative disease.

The challenge is simple: pour a bucket of water over yourself, give some money (if you can) to a charity such as the ALS Association, and then challenge others to do the same, using the provided hashtags.

Persson has done his part, calling on Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, to contribute. They all have pots of money, and we'd quite like to see them drenched and shivering, so we're well behind this initiative. (40% of VG247's team have shown signs of sadism and, when consulted, said they'd quite like to see anybody suffer this fate - so don't read anything into it.)

It's already something of a meme online so get in before it gets too popular, you dirty hipsters. If you're up for it, have a go for yourself and poke the people in your life into doing the same. Visit the Ice Bucket Challenge website for more information.
