The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D has been in the works since 2011

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D went into development "almost immediately after" Ocarina of Time 3D shipped.

The Legend of Zelda fans have been clamouring for a Majora's Mask remake since Nintendo first indicated that Ocarina of Time 3D was on the horizon.

In a new Miiverse post, series producer Eiji Aonuma confessed that the team went to work on it straight away.

"The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D was actually in development almost immediately after we finished working on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which was released in June of 2011," he said.

Aonuma said the team didn't want to announce the project until it "could proudly say that this is not going to be just another remake and that it's going to be worth your time".

The producer said Nintendo has worked to ensure "smoother" gameplay without detracting from Majora's Mask's unique feel. There will be some changes, though.

"When it's closer to its release date, I’ll talk more about what has been changed in the Nintendo 3DS version and its new features," Aonuma promised.
