PUBG quietly sells 4.7 million in 2019 as Fortnite revenue continues decline - report

The digital marketplace on PC, consoles and mobile has seen declines in player spending during May.

SuperData has revealed in its May report that consumer spending digitally amounted to $8.7 billion across PC, consoles, and mobile, a 4% drop compared to the same period last year.

While Fortnite was the largest generator of spending in May on consoles, the game's revenue continues to decline. Compared to May last year, Fortnite's revenue dropped by 38%, down to $203 across all three platforms.

Surprisingly, while PUBG didn't chart on either PC or console, the game continues to sell well. SuperData estimates around 4.7 million units have been sold so far this year. Unlike Fortnite and Apex Legends, PUBG is a paid, $30 title, so continued sales is a good sign that players are interested.

Speaking of Apex Legends, the game also couldn't land in the top ten on PC or console, but this may change in July when the new season kicks off. Fortnite itself saw a boost because of Season 9, even if it's trending mostly downwards compared to its banner performance last year.
