Activision's confirmed that CEO and president Mike Griffith has resigned, effective from April 23.

The big man will maintain a role as vice-chairman of Activision Blizzard on a 12-month contract.

Griffith will be paid a basic salary of $250,000 per year, with a discretionary bonus of 50 percent based on his previous roles for the first part of 2010.

Griffith, a regular feature of Activision Blizzard's unfailingly entertaining conference calls, has been dubbed "The Bulldog" behind the scenes. He's been with the firm since 2005.
