"Just pirate" Hotline Miami 2 in Australia, says developer

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number might not officially release in Australia, but Australians are still allowed to play it.

Hotline Miami developer Dennaton Games has said Australians can pirate the sequel if it doesn't end up releasing locally.

"If it ends up being not released in Australia, just pirate it after release," designer Jonatan Söderström wrote in an email to a fan.

"No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!"

The email was verified by Ars Technica, speaking to a representative of publisher Devolver Digital.

"He’s said similar things in the past and yes, I can confirm he wants people to enjoy the game," the representative said.

Australia's a pretty tiny market, so Devolver won't be losing a great deal by not releasing locally. Since the publisher has elected not to censor the game or challenge the Australian Classification Board's decision, that looks pretty likely at this point.
