GameStop revealed during its annual financial report that Activision, EA, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony make up 75 percent of the retail chain's new product sales.

That figure is in direct proportion to the number of companies it does business with, but out of the roughly 75 worldwide vendors, the above referenced companies rake in the most for the retailer.

While the majority of publishers working with GameStop has remained the same over the years, there has been a shift in the amount of sales per each vendor.

The company that brings in the most for GameStop would be Nintendo, which was responsible for 23 percent of new product purchases for the retailer's fiscal 2009 ending on January 31, 2010. Still, that figure is down 25 percent over the previous year, which reflects the overall slide in game sales as a whole.

Claiming 75 percent of its new product purchases during fiscal 2009 were, in order: Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Activision.

Here's each broken down by percentage contributed:

  • Nintendo 23 percent
  • Sony 17 percent
  • Microsoft and EA - tied at 12 percent each
  • Activision 11 percent (first time reaching double digits with the retailer)

According to Gamespot:

"The top 10 companies GameStop does business with accounted for roughly 85 percent of its new product purchases in fiscal 2009. That's up from 80 percent in fiscal 2008 and fiscal 2007. In fiscal 2006, the retail chain's top 10 business partners only combined for 65 percent of its new product purchases, with Microsoft taking the single largest share with 14 percent".

GameSpot also revealed in the report that it estimates the US console and handheld installed base to be around 220 million - which would mean that two-thirds of the US population owns a gaming system of some kind.
