EA Origin Humble Bundle pays out $1.65 million to American Cancer Society

EA has handed over $1.65 million to the American Cancer Society, just part of a whopping total the publisher raised for charity by offering a pay-what-you-want bundle.

EA handed over a cheque to the American Cancer Society recently, and EA COO Peter Moore celebrated the event on Twitter.

The payout is a slice of the $10.5 million EA raised with the Origin Humble Bundle. This pay-what-you-want package offered Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 – Uprising, Populous, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space 3, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3 Starter Pack.

EA refused all revenue from the bundle, instead nominating the Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and GamesAid as beneficiaries. Purchasers were able to choose which charity or charities they wanted their payment to benefit, or accept a default, even split.

With over 2.1 million sales, the Origin Humble Bundle was the most successful offered by the Humble Bundle website since inception, having massively out-performed previous record holder Humble Bundle 5, which raised over $5 million.
