Titanfall 2 "didn't quite sell as well as it should have," says Respawn

Titanfall 2 may not have been a failure, but it certainly didn't reach its full sales potential.

According to Vince Zampella, head of the game's developer Respawn, the game was successful, it just didn't sell as well as it should have.

Zampella told Gamespot that there could be a couple of reasons for that.

"The game was successful, it sold well, but it didn't quite sell as well as it should have," he told the site. "Maybe because it was super-crowded, the pricing was aggressive--it was a rough window to launch our game."

It's unclear what he means by an aggressive price. Would it have perhaps done better at retail if sold for less than $60?

The game's release timing certainly didn't do it any favours. Titanfall 2 came out October 28, one week after Battlefield 1, and one week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered. The promises of free post-launch support didn't help the launch sales much, either.

As for the series' future, Zampella was clear the franchise will continue, but couldn't say how. "'We're doing more Titanfall,' [sic] is the quote I'm supposed to say," he said.

"We have our franchise creative director, who's in charge of safeguarding the franchise in multiple formats and making sure it continues to grow. There's some other things we're doing that haven't been announced just yet, but we're heavily invested in the Titanfall universe."

A sequel to Titanfall 2 has not been announced by either EA, or Respawn. With the studio now busy working on a Star Wars game, it may be a while before we hear about what's next for Titanfall.
