Each episode of Alien Breed: Evolution contains unique content

John Dennis, Team 17’s design manager, has told RPS that each of the three episodes for Alien Breed: Evolution contains a narrative arc that links all three together, along with its own weapons, environments and aliens.
“Each episode is a stand-alone game that can be downloaded and played separately,” said Dennis. “There’s a narrative arc that links the three episodes together, each episode ending on a cliff-hanger that’s resolved at the start of the next episode. So if people download the first episode, we hope they’ll want to find out how the story carries on in later episodes [and] each episode has three unique maps designed specifically for co-op multiplayer.
“Each episode has a unique selection of weapons, environments and aliens, as well as it’s own set-piece battles and boss encounters, so each one has quite a different flavour. They’re all pretty tense affairs though. It still makes me nervous playing the game on “Elite” difficulty, and I’ve been working on the game since the start!
“I’m not sure what the price for each episode will be: I don’t think it’s been decided yet, but each episode’s between 5-8 hours of play, so I’m sure it’ll be good value for money.”
Dennis also said that the team is working hard on the PC version, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before it is released as well.

Team 17 talks Alien Breed Evolution, free prologues

Team17′s John Dennis has chatted a bit about Alien Breed Evolution during the Eurogamer Expo in Leeds, and confirmed three episodes for PS3 and Xbox 360.
“In each episode there’s a prologue level, then there are five single-player levels and they’re really large. Much larger than they should have been,” he said. “There are also two set pieces in each episode. For example there’s one where the ship goes through an asteroid field, there’s debris coming up through the floor and the air’s running out.
“There are also two boss battles in each episode, then on top of that there are three multiplayer levels.”
Dennis revealed that each episode will take “five to eight hours” to complete, and the prologues for each will be free to download.
Still no word on a release or price yet.
Thanks, Eurogamer.

Team 17: Microsoft bribery claims are “bollocks”

Team 17 boss Martyn Brown has said that claims of bribery from Microsoft over the timed exclusivity of Alien Breed: Evolution for Xbox Live Arcade, are “bollocks”, although understands there are PS3 owners who are pissed at the exclusivity deal.
“I understand that. It’s difficult. Obviously we’d like everything on every platform day one. The LIVE Arcade thing… we get accused of being bribed or we’ve took Microsoft’s money, and it’s all bollocks,” Brown told Videogamer .
“The reason is that we’ve got a long relationship with Microsoft’s first party unit. We get on great with them. In exchange for exclusivity we get a lot more promotion. We’ve got a closer deal with them. That’s just how it is. It’s unfortunate. That’s just how we work.”
The Team 17 boss further went on to cite PSN games, Super Stardust HD and PAIN, as examples of games 360 owners cant get their hands on due to exclusivity.
“They’ve [Sony] got their own exclusives. You look at Super Stardust, which is exclusive to PS3. It works the other way round. For people complaining, at the same time, people on LIVE Arcade can’t play Super Stardust or PAIN or a bunch of titles. It’s just the way the world works really.”
The game’s out on Xbox Live Arcade sometime this Fall with a PSN and PC release sometime later.

Alien Breed Evolution to debut on XBLA because of faith shown by Microsoft, says Team 17′s Brown

In a video interview with VG247 last week, Team 17 boss Martyn Brown said that Alien Breed Evolution will release on Xbox Live Arcade first due to the faith Microsoft showed in the developer from an early stage.
“I think XBLA still leads PS3 in terms of user base and probably the amount of people buying the thing,” he told us when we asked why Team 17 chose 360 as the lead platform for release.
“Plus we have a relationship with Microsoft that’s pretty close – a first party publishing relationship,” he said.
“They showed a lot of faith in us early doors and that’s kind of kept going really. I think they’ve got the same kind of games on there: it’s the same kind of audience really.
“I’m not suggesting the PS3 is any less than that, but we just feel that’s the market for the game.
“It will come to PS3 and it will come to PC as well, but intially it’ll be Live Arcade,” concluded Brown.
